Being Bipolar: Top search terms and improving ranking
As the end of the first quarter draws near, I thought it was time to assess the search terms used to find my blog during the first three months’ of 2009.
I was not surprised to find that image searches resulted in the greatest amount of traffic from search engines. In the months of January and February, there were no image searches at all. In March, image searches accounted for more than five times that of any other search term. Of course, I just really started adding images in March. For those of you who don’t believe that taking the time to add images to your post will increase your traffic from search engines—it most certainly will! Take the time to add a photo to each post and make sure to add your tags in the description of each one. You’ll be surprised how quickly it will boost your traffic.
The terms most often used to find my blog are no big surprise. They are exactly what I intended for them to be. They are terms that I have used over and over for months on my blog.
My second highest-ranking search term is “bipolar”. On Google, there are approximately 17,900,000 results for this search term. I am not even in the top 100 results. It’s actually surprising that I receive so much traffic from this term considering these facts. My explanation would be that people who are searching this term are willing to do extensive research and many of them are looking for personal experiences with bipolar disorder.
The third term is “living with a bipolar spouse”. There are 128,000 results for this search term on Google. I am the tenth result for this tern, which places me on the front page. You would think that this would send me more traffic than the term “bipolar”, but it has sent me just a tad less visitors despite its placement in search results.
“Being Bipolar” nets almost 19,000,000 results on Google. I rank number six in the results, which places me pretty high on the front page. Despite its placement, it falls a distant fourth behind “living with a bipolar spouse”. I would assume that it is not a term that is often searched and this is why it isn’t bringing in as much traffic as other terms.
Fifth in the rankings is “bipolar 1”. There are approximately 15,600,000 results for this term on Google and I am on the third page ranking number 24. That’s not too shabby, I suppose.
So, how do I increase my traffic? Most importantly, I need to keep adding images to increase the traffic they are raking in. Secondly, I need to focus on bringing up my placement on Google for the term “bipolar” so that I will receive even more traffic from this highly searched term. I have a Google Page Rank of 5, which surely helps some with placement. I use the term liberally throughout the majority of my posts and I always use it in my tags. Aside from this, I am not sure what else I can do to bring me closer to the front page. I am sure as my blog gets older and more content is added that it will also put me closer. Is there any thing else I can do?
